The Resolution of Tension is a play on the concept from music theory of tension and release. This song structure plays heavily into tension and release. This is one of those rare songs in which a lead felt inappropriate. This song, like many of mine, feels like a journey, I want to take the listener on a musical adventure. Guitar instrumentals should take the listener on a ride. I truly enjoy how this song has a triumphant tone throughout. The core components of this song were written during a time when I was feeling particularly lucky. When it came time to record the guitars I had to dig deep to rekindle that feeling. The past year and a half has been one of the most challenging times I’ve ever experienced. Yet, I found the strength within to conquer my demons long enough to bring some of the best playing within out to the world.
Musically, this song follows a relatively simple progression; however, it is my use of arpeggios that conveys the complexity. Additionally, they also complete the sense of tension and resolution. The chords in this song aren’t your typical power chords you would normally find in hard rock song. I get bored easily with those types of chords. I wanted to create more variety. I hope you enjoy!
